I think that the full legalization of marijuana is the only logical responce our culture can have to the unjust prohibition to marijuana. America has an obvious and positive personal identity that will always need to be reevaluated based on the peoples common beliefs. From.a psychological stand point Maslow’s hierarchy of needs is a perfect model that describes the process America can use to assess it’s identity and further work towards what maslow calls ‘self-actualization.’ This self-actualization is defined as the point where America reaches its’ full potential being the best model of its internal beliefs. Furthermore, the fact that such a large group of Americans (44% as stated in the article) does oppses the current system of prohibition, this is in direct violation of of the internal beliefs of 44% of Americas current population. We need to become a more realiztic culture, through education we can stop blindly believing in a system of failed system of prohibition. We must realize that the plant will never be fully eliminated from our society. 10,000 years of known human use of the plant gives us a presidence that has proven.this notion to be true. I would like to end by saying that marijuana, or any other substance for that matter, should not be considered a gateway drug. I think that the true gateway is the ‘forbiden fruit’ persona we create around these substances that is proven to be the main reason individuals want to experiment with any substance based on a temptation, this is most recognizeable in the well known storie of adam and eve where not even the highest power in the entire world could not keep 2 free spirits away from an apple. We look to our higher power for direction in everyday life, our world needs to listen to the parable and understand that this will never work. It is a plant, biological material not much different from any other flower in the world other than one molecule, THC. What a wonderful molecule it is.
