While this is indeed encouraging news, your deduction that “there is no interest in such products in [the US or Canada]” is totally insane. Oil companies are influential, but they by no means control everything. I think you need to temper your cynicism with some reality.
The assertion that “The South Korean accomplishment also points at the fact that the oil industry is indeed dispensable” also disregards reality. It would be fantastic if we didn’t need oil, but the primary use of oil is as an energy source. This does little to replace that. I think your point needs further explaining.
Overall, thanks for bringing this to my attention. But I think you would be taken more seriously if you focused more on accounting facts and not interpreting them for me.

Canada’s not worried about a shortage of oil, it’s the 2nd largest oil exporting nation on the plant. Why would they be expected to push for alternate sources for plastic.
