Buu was one of the strongest characters in Dragon Ball Z, but that was awhile ago. Here’s how his might compare to the Z-Warriors in Dragon Ball Super.
Majin Buu was once one of the Dragon ball z’s strongest characters, so why isn’t he shown that way in Dragon ball super? There was a time in the anime when he was considered the Z-Warriors’ greatest threat. Vegeta, even with an evil upgrade from Babidi, couldn’t kill him, and Goku himself only had a slight advantage over him after switching to Super Saiyan 3.
By absorbing the others, the evil Buu was able to beat powerful characters like Gotenks and Ultimate Gohan. After his transformation into Kid Buu and his death at the hands of the Spirit Bomb, Buu’s good side remained in the anime. While not as powerful as the villainous Super Buu, the character continued to be seen as a force to be reckoned with. He was seen as an ally – albeit unreliable – in Dragon Ball Super. He briefly faced Beerus in the Battle of Gods saga, defeated Basil from Universe 9 at Zeno Expo, and was added to Goku’s squad for the Tournament of Power. Unfortunately, Buu’s unscheduled nap caused him to lose his place on the list.

Buu may have missed Dragon ball super’s biggest battle, but enough of it has been seen in the series to give a good indication of its current level of power in the anime. Ahead of the tournament, it was confirmed by Goku that Buu (who received a new slim look) has grown stronger since Dragon ball z completed. However, his fight match shows that the best he can do at this point is to fight on a level playing field with Goku in his basic form. So as he increased in power, the gap between him and the top two Z-Warriors widened considerably. With their new Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue transformations, Goku and Vegeta have left him far behind. Ultimate Gohan easily did the same, as he now has the ability to push Goku to use his Super Saiyan Blue Kaio-ken power-up.
Buu no longer has enough strength to compete with Goku, Vegeta, or Gohan, but at least through most Dragon ball Great, he was considered by the Z-Warriors to be one of their strongest. He was among the first characters Goku turned to when looking for allies in their battles against Universe 6 and Universe 9, as well as the Tournament of Power. This is because Buu is still on top of several of the heroes, including Android 18, Krillin, Tien, Yamcha, Master Roshi and of course Chiaotzu.
That being said, Buu’s loss of relevance and inability to make significant gains has allowed some characters who were previously in his shadow to outshine him. Future Trunks and former villains Frieza and Android 17 are now at the level of Super Saiyan Blue. Piccolo, based on his ability to follow Ultimate Gohan in the Tournament of Power, also appears to have eclipsed Buu, despite not even being seen as a threat to him in Dragon ball z. As to what the future of Dragon ball The franchise goes for Buu, it’s possible that with a little practice he could prevent more Z-Warriors from outdoing him.
