Marsh Cup 2021: Steve Smith strangely leaves James Pattinson before scoring 14th List A Century

Smith eerily leaves James Pattinson wide delivery: The Australian batsman’s rendezvous with starting balls had some fun at North Sydney Oval.

In the opening match of the ongoing 52nd Marsh Cup match between New South Wales and Victoria in Sydney, New South Wales batsman Steven Smith continued to leave deliveries out of the strain.

In what was a wide delivery thrown by Victoria spearhead James Pattinson in the 43rd, Smith appeared to leave it conventionally at first, but changed his mind after seeing the breadth of the delivery.

After Victoria captain Peter Handscomb won the toss and called on the hosts to fight, New South Wales thrived on the back of Smith’s 14th A Century list.

Coming to bat at No. 3 in just the second over, Smith beat pretty much all the way through to score 127 (124) with the help of nine fours and six sixes. Playing a match for a day after more than two months and also a domestic match, Smith took advantage of his outing at North Sydney Oval.

Newbie Oliver Davies, who recently represented Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League’s 10th season, scored an impressive 41 57 balls in an 89-innings partnership alongside Smith for New South Wales.

With bowling tricks of 10-0-40-2, Victoria spinner Jon Holland was the bowlers’ choice for visitors. In addition to Holland, Will Sutherland, Pattinson and Zac Evans also chose two wickets each.
