Red Dead Redemption 2’s Most Out-of-Place Easter Eggs

Like many Rockstar games, Red Dead Redemption 2 contains a lot of different Easter Eggs, but some of them clearly have no place in the Old West.

Many Rockstar Games titles have become cultural phenomena in their own right, such as Red Dead Redemption 2 made after its release in 2018. But every Rockstar game is also loaded with references to all kinds of pop culture, from movies to books to comics and more. For many game designers, it’s both a fun way to pay homage to the influences that inspired these games, and a way to salute their favorites. Some of these references fit perfectly into the world of their different inclusions. but others make no sense. Red Dead Redemption 2 is full of Easter eggs, and some of them stick out like sore thumbs.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has many Easter eggs suitable for the setting and the period. RDR2 players can meet civil war ghosts, discover references to films like O brother, where are you? and The assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford, or even find a first flying machine similar to that of the Wright brothers, invented only four years after the year Red Dead Redemption 2 is set, 1899.

Next to the skeleton is a note asking Arthur to come back at 2 a.m. Return to the cabin at 2 a.m. and a strange green light from a UFO will filter through the rafters.

Around Red Dead Redemption 2In Valentine’s Town, discerning gamers can hear one of the NPCs, an unlucky tramp, sing a tune eerily similar to Kanye West’s “Can’t Tell Me Nothing.” The tramp struggles through the lyrics “La la la … do my … money well“This is either an incredible coincidence or proof that Kanye West is a time traveler in the world of RDR2.

The old west might not be a place for a mild-mannered hobbit, but RDR2 has a the Lord of the Rings reference anyway. Look for it in the Grizzlies East region of Ambarino, where it will be accessible from Chapter 2. Inside the cabin is the failed experiment, along with notes from the mad scientist who created it. Few westerns have featured mad scientists in general, but this specifically seems to be a reference to a South Park episode titled “ManBearPig”.

These are just a fraction of the many Easter eggs found in Red Dead Redemption 2, and the players who found them all will have to wait for the next game of the Red Dead series to see what other surprises Rockstar is planning. Fortunately, the wait for Red Dead Redemption 3 shouldn’t be long – just ten years.
