A Sex and the City rebirth series is underway at HBO Max, but Chris Noth will not be reprising the iconic character Mr. Big when the series returns.
Kim Cattrall won’t reprise her iconic Samantha role in upcoming HBO Max episode Gender and city alarm clock, and now it’s been reported that Chris Noth won’t appear as Mr. Big either. Based on Candace Bushnell’s collection of successful essays, Gender and city originally ran from 1998 to 2004 on HBO. After living with four friends in New York City, he won numerous awards, including several Emmys and Golden Globes. The Revival series, called And just like that …, was officially announced on January 10 after years of rumors the show would return. Set to shoot in New York this spring, the series is slated for 10 episodes, although no premiere date has been announced. Original actors Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon. and Kristin Davis are all set to return. And after years of bad blood with Parker, Cattrall previously ruled out a return to everything Gender and city projects, with HBO’s content director Max stating that Samantha’s absence will be explained as a fading friendship.
Noth, however, will not be back according to a new report. By Page six, the actor will not reprise his role as the iconic Mr. Big in the Gender and city the comeback. There are no details as to why Noth isn’t returning, or how Mr. Big’s absence from the show will be explained. The report also states that David Eigenberg, who plays Miranda’s husband Steve, will not be returning, although a representative told the publication “the actor is in negotiations to appear in the series.“
If Noth doesn’t come back for the wake-up call, it’s hardly a surprise. Noth appeared on the Gender and city franchise for a while, admitting that he “hated“The end of the first movie. Because of this, it makes sense that he is reluctant to reprise the character. Plus, Noth probably has an exhausting filming schedule for his new series. Equalizer, which would mean he probably wouldn’t have time to appear in the rebirth series anyway, at least not in a meaningful way.
There is no guarantee that Mr. Big would have even been inscribed in the new series, however. A little after Sex and the city 3 failed in 2017, a report surfaced claiming that Noth’s character was about to die of a heart attack at the start of the script. If that’s true, writers and producers could use the same plot for a cover series. Or, given that Big and Carrie had issues throughout their relationship and especially in the second movie, maybe the two could have been divorced between the end of the second movie and the start of the new series. It could be that Mr. Big’s character just took his course, making Gender and city rebirth series better without him.
